What is GPS tracking

GPS (Global Positioning System) is a navigation system that uses satellites to determine the approximate location of an object on Earth. What mSpy does is that it makes use of this technology to collect data about the target device’s current location and shows it on a map in your control panel.

 

How does it tracking work?

The app uses the GPS chip from the target device for collecting location information. After that, it is transferred via the cellular network to the hidden mSpy application that was installed on the device that's being tracked.

Upon reception of this data, the application forwards it to the mSpy's servers. It then uses complicated algorithms to refine the accuracy of this position data.

Finally, these processed details are displayed on the admin dashboard with real-time location tracking information, historical location data, geofencing notifications, and even the ability to replay device routes.

 

What can you do with the GPS tracking feature?

  1. Monitor real-time location: You can Check where your kids are at any time by viewing their real-time position on a map.
  2. Set geofences: You can create virtual perimeters around places that have personal significance for you (e.g., home, school) and get alerted whenever they enter or leave them.
  3. View location history: You can get access to historical data about your child’s whereabouts for the past 90 days. However, I do wish that they could backtrack data for a longer period.
  4. Track lost or stolen phones: You can use this feature not only for parental control purposes, but also for finding lost or stolen devices.

Setting up the device

Take note that you will need physical access to the target phone just once. There are no technical skills required during setup because everything is easy to follow thanks to the in-app instructions guide while doing the installation.

 

My personal experience with the GPS tracking feature

The first time I accessed the dashboard and saw the target device displayed on a map was kind of surreal. I’ve only seen this kind of technology in movies but never thought I would use it myself one day.

And as much as I was thrilled with its fun aspect, I was more thrilled about its safety aspect because I'll also be able to use this in case my kid's phone gets stolen.

After the installation, things were pretty straightforward. All I had to do was check out the dashboard to know where exactly they are.

There were also some unexpected benefits:

  • This tool relieved me from constantly calling family members or texting them “Where are you?” because now, I'll be able to know exactly where they are.
  • It offers me peace of mind by knowing my kids never deviate from their daily routines such as going straight home after school.
  • My kids love it too because now they can check out how much time they have left until we reach our destination during road trips.
